Projector Placement

Part 2

Plan B - Ceiling Mount

Mounting your projector from the ceiling is not recommended except in special circumstances. It is a permanent installation which requires a fair amount of time and effort to accomplish. But if your flight simulator is permanently set up in a dedicated room a ceiling mount may be the ticket.

A guide for this plan may be included at a later date.

Plan C - Rear Screen Projection

If you can place your computer station with 7 to 9 feet of space in front of your desk (as shown) this plan has some advantages. Shadows don't block the screen and it may be possible to lay the VGA cable neatly along a wall.

Translucent screens for this setup are very expensive. There is an easy way to make your own, however. For instructions click here.

Plan D - Folded Beam

It is not difficult to hang a mirror on the wall to reflect the projector beam as shown. However, for a large display you will have to use a fairly large mirror, 18 inches square or larger, to realize good space savings. Depending on the dimensions of your setting you may have to move the mirror a few times to get the beam lined up.

One disadvantage of the folded beam plan is that some loss of brightness occurs from reflecting the beam from the mirror. With a 2300 lumen projector the loss is not very noticeable on a 50+ inch display unless 3D glasses are used.
