Some 3D FAQ's
3D Projector FAQ's
1) Will 3D projection work on my PC?
Generally, if you are happy with your PC’s graphics for video gaming then your system is ready for 3D glasses. However, for best 3D performance most 3D aficionados recommend using a graphics card with an NVidia GPU.2) Will 3D projection work with my games?
Most all game works very well in stereo. This is because nearly all video games are written using either OpenGL or DirectX programming languages. These languages feed your video card’s all the information it needs to produce stunning 3D depth perception with an nVidia stereo driver.3D enthusiasts have tested and compiled a long list of video games on stereo setups. Check out the
Stereo3D forum game lists
to see if your favorite game has been tested.

2) Which projector should I purchase?
The most important requirement is to buy a DLP projector that has a VGA input. Recent "home theater" models often come with only DVI inputs.
You will need the VGA input to your projector because the 3D Video adapter from eDimensional provides a VGA (or analog) video signal.
It is okay for your video card to have only a DVI output. A simple DVI-to-VGA adapter will work for the video card. You cannot go the
other direction though! Do NOT try feeding VGA video from the eDimensional 3D video adapter into a DVI input of a projector.
Andrew Woods has an excellent list of 3D DLP projectors that have been tested at Curtain University for 3D projection. It is not a bad idea to look for your projector on his list.
You may want to consider the projector's "native" screen resolution and lumen output, projector noise, etc. My favorite
resource for checking out projectors is Projector Central.

4) What kind of glasses should I buy?
At 3D Flight Simulation eDimensional 3D glasses are used and recommended. But there are other manufacturers. Check out the stereo3D web site if you want to consider other models.TOP
5) How much will a 3D projector setup cost?
Projector prices are falling! On sale the right kind of projector may be available for under $500. Check out Tigerdirect.com for prices.Don Woligroski describes a 3D projection game setup for under $1500 in his Tom's Hardware guide. If you already have a gaming PC the cost can be even less!

6) Will I need to buy a new video card?
For the very best results 3D Flight Simulation recommends using NVIDIA graphics. This is because of the “page flipping” method NVIDIA stereo uses to display the stereo images on the computer monitor. The page flipping technique maintains the high definition of the XGA 1024 x 768 screen resolution.TOP
7) Do I have to load my PC with special software?
EDimensional glasses come with an easy to install driver to run stereo on non-NVIDIA cards. You will need to download the NVIDIA stereo drivers for NVIDIA cards. It is a small download and is easy to install. NOTE: the NVIDIA stereo driver should have a version number equal or lower than the version number of the NVIDIA graphics card driver. You will need both the graphics and stereo drivers installed.TOP
8) Will I need to buy a Stereo Projection Converter?
You will need to purchase 3D Flight Simulation’s Stereo Projection Converter if you use NVIDIA graphics and use eDimensional WIRELESS glasses.TOP
9) Can I try out stereo 3D without using a projector?
Yes - if you have a CRT computer monitor.TOP
10) What about using a projector WITHOUT going 3D?
Use of projectors in place of a CRT or LCD monitor is becoming more and more popular! The brightness,
flexibility and huge screen sizes projection makes possible adds greatly to the sense of “immersion” which
is the goal of virtual reality enthusiasts.

3D-Ready HDTV FAQ's
11) How long do the expensive projector lamps last?
I've used several projectors for years without needing to replace a projector bulb. The rear projection HDTV set at our home has seen heavy use for over 8 years now.TOP
12) Is my DLP HDTV a 3D-Ready TV?

13) Will my PC run my 3D-Ready HDTV?
The essential requirement is that your PC have a video card with a DVI video output (see photo above). Your PC will also need special software. If your PC has "integrated" graphics it probably will not be able to operate the 3D-Ready televisions. PC's with integrated graphics do not have an removable PCI or PCIe graphics card, the graphics chips are on the motherboard.TOP
14) What software does my PC need to run my 3D-Ready HDTV?
Read HERE to find free software for testing your 3D-Ready HDTV. In addition, you may need
to purchase PowerDVD to play some copyrighted 3D-DVD's.

15) Where can I buy a PC for my 3D-Ready HDTV?
If you are buying a PC for running your 3D-Ready HDTV you really want a 3D HOME THEATER PC (3D-HTPC). May I suggest you purchase your 3D-HTPC at 3DFlightSim? With our 3D-HDTV's you can record and burn to DVD high definition broadcasts, and record/pause/burn any cable or satelite program in standard definition. Click HERE for prices and options.TOP
16) Will my video games work in 3D on my 3D-Ready HDTV.
Most likely, YES! Your PC will need to have an NVidia graphics card with DVI output. You will need to download a patch to the nVidia stereo driver (available in the download section). You will have to run the patch each time you want to start your game in 3D. Future graphics drivers will not need this patch.TOP
17) Will 3D strain my eyes?
My friends and family have never experienced ANY eyestrain with the new 3D Ready HDTV's. I believe this is because they produce such a blazingly fast refresh rate: 120 Hertz. This is double the refresh rate of ordinary TV's, and much higher than the 85 Hz refresh rate of most DLP projectors.TOP
