Setups: Ready to connect!
To summarize: You have a new 3D-Ready HDTV and you purchased a set of 3D glasses. Next you checked out your PC.
It has a graphics card with a DVI connector. You loaded the PC with FREE software to check out your new 3D-HTDV.
Now you are almost ready to connect! |
|
Last Step : The DVI to HDMI cable
The last thing you need is a DVI to HDMI cable. This cable can be picked up at TigerDirect or Newegg.com for $15 or less.
Please do not fall for some of the scams that I've seen with these cables!
Many stores price these cables for nearly $100 or more! Do not pay over $30 for this cable.
|
Connecting the PC to the HDTV could not be much easier. The illustration does not show your keyboard and mouse, but you will need these of course. Also include your PC's speaker so you can hear the 3D video file's audeo.
However, I recommend that you leave your monitor behind. Do not try to connect both your monitor and HDTV, and do not use the VGA connector on
the TV (which is marked "PC Input"). Just connect the DVI-HDMI cable between the DVI output of the PC and the HDMI-1 input on the TV set. Carefully
insert the plug of the IR emitter into the 3D SYNC OUT socket of the TV. Place the emitter on the TV with the LED's facing toward the viewers (that
be you!).

TV Remote Control
When you turn on the PC you may need to press the HDMI button on the remote control to bring up the PC screen.
You may then have to play with the P.SIZE button to get the best fit. Do not be suprised if the PC's desktop does
not fit well. This effect is common when connecting a PC to an HDTV and is called "screen overscan." ( My 3D-HTPC's are set up to avoid this and other problems!) Setting the resolution of the desk top to 1024 X 768 may
fix the problem until you are orientated.
Now for the 3D! You must set your desktop to 1280 X 760 resolution for the stereo to work ( 1280 X 1080 if your set is a 1080 model).
Run "Summer in Heidelberg" in StereoPlayer. Press F5 on the keyboard to engage stereo imaging. Now the last
step. Press the 3D button on the remote control (shown at left). The TV should flash a message that 3D stereo is engaged.
Turn on your stereo glasses and be prepared for an awesome experience!
|
You will probably need just a couple of adjustments for the most perfect effect. Most importantly: if the stereo does not look absolutely
perfect PRESS F7 on the keyboard. Some video may come up in "reverse stereo" which destroys the effect. Pressing F7 (or pressing the
3D button on the remote) will correct this problem.
You may also find the 3D comes out too strong. Press SHIFT-LEFT ARROW or SHIFT-RIGHT ARROW until it
looks PERFECT. You can also press ALT-ENTER on the keyboard to put the movie into FULL SCREEN mode. (The escape key will bring it back to windowed mode.)
I hope this guide is helpful for those of you testing out this fabulous new technology. It should not be too difficult to get things working,
but unfortunately there can always be problems. If the stereo does not work immediately please have a little persistence. Once you have it
running the first time you will be golden!
