Video Games on 3D-HDTV's

Figure 1: 3D_DLP patch (one of two) Most PC games can run in 3D on your 3D-Ready HDTV. You will need:
  1. An NVidia graphics card with DVI video output
  2. Graphics drivers for your Nvidia card (duh!)
  3. An NVidia Stereo driver compatible with 2. above.
  4. The 3D_DLP patch for the NVidia Stereo driver
The 3D_DLP patch is available on the 3DFlightSim download page.

If you have a high-end 8000 series NVidia card you will be a pioneer in this new territory. If you have a 6000 or 7000 series card select the NVidia stereo driver that best matches the graphics drivers you have for your card. Guru3D is a good place to find these drivers. Version 93.71 drivers (both graphics and stereo) may be easier to use than the latest (V162.50) drivers.

Step 1

Unpack the 3D_DLP.ZIP patch. I suggest you place the files "3D_DLP_left_first.reg" and "3D_DLP_right_first.reg" on the PC Desktop. The icons will look something like Figure 1.

Step 2

After installing the stereo driver open the stereo properties section in the NVidia control panel. Launch the "Test Application" and enable 3D stereo. Your glasses will not work yet, but you should see the double images. Press escape to close the test.

Step 3

Run the patches by double clicking on both "3D_DLP_left_first.reg" and "3D_DLP_right_first.reg". Windows will show the typical dialog boxes ("Are you sure ...", etc.)

Step 4

Now launch the test application again. This time press the 3D button on your Samsung or Mitsubishi remote control. Your glasses should now work, and you should see the beautiful NVIDIA test application in 3D.

If you get to step 4 you are in business! You can close out the NVidia control panel. Just perform STEP 3 before you launch your video game. You will have to do step 3 each time you run your game. (Future video card drivers may well eliminate the need for this patch method.)
