Flight Simulator X Hardware Tests

FSX TEST REPORT

Test 1: Vista versus Windows XP

Before upgrading any hardware we tested an Operating System upgrade. Vista RC1 (beta) was installed on the base PC:
  • A-BIT KN8-SLI motherboard
  • 7200 RPM / 8MB SATA disk drive (160 Gig)
  • 1 Gig 400Hz PC3200 DDR memory
  • AMD Athlon 64 socket 939 3200+ Venice CPU
  • Two XFX 6800 XT video cards

Due to the nature of the beta VISTA drivers for both motherboard and graphics cards it was not clear whether the system ran with SLI engaged or not.

UPDATE: 10-19 correction

Comparing frame rates from the previous a test (charted below) it appeared that VISTA offered improved performance for FSX. However the first VISTA test used the demo version of Flight Simulator X. When tests were repeated on VISTA with the released version of FSX frame rates dropped. At this time no performance gain can be reported with the Beta release of Vista X86.

With medium low setting in FSX no performance gain could be found between the two operating systems.
